Inulin - the compound made up of more than 30 molecules of simple sugars that are linked by β-2,1-glycosidic bonds in an unbranched chain. It is a polysaccharide of plant origin, which is a reserve store. It is a substance that is not digested in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract, which is why it is transported in its undigested form to the large intestine, where it undergoes bacterial fermentation in the colon. Inulin is a rich source of dietary fiber, which is why it is used as dietary fiber. At the same time, the compound is considered a prebiotic, being an excellent breeding ground for good bacteria living in the digestive system.
