Folic acid - organic chemical compound classified as water-soluble B vitamins. It is a substance that is also often referred to as vitamin B9. After ingestion, folic acid, with help of specific enzymes, is converted into active form of vitamin, which is 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF), which allows the compound to perform its proper functions in the body.
