What is L-carnosine and when is it worth supplementing?
L-carnosine is a dipeptide composed of beta-alanine and histidine. It occurs naturally in our body, including in muscles. Its main dietary sources are red meat, as well as poultry and fish. People who don't eat meat, i.e. vegans and vegetarians, are especially prone to its deficiency; its amount in the body also decreases with age. L-carnosine primarily regulates the breakdown, metabolism and activity of proteins, thus affecting the performance and regeneration capacity of our muscles and the proper functioning of the nervous system. It also inhibits the release of free radicals.
